LTO: E-Driver’s License Accepted as Valid Alternative to Physical Card
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has reiterated that the official digital version of a motorist’s driver’s license, known as the e-driver’s license, remains a valid substitute for the physical card.
In a statement, the LTO explained that motorists can access their e-driver’s license through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal and the eGov app. The use of the digital license has been officially recognized since 2023, following an order from the Department of Transportation.
Motorists may present their e-driver’s license on their mobile phones during traffic inspections or in the event of a traffic violation, particularly when the physical license card is unavailable. LTO enforcers and deputized law-enforcement agents are required to acknowledge and accept a valid e-driver’s license in these situations.
However, the agency emphasized that only the official e-driver’s license is considered a valid replacement for the physical card. Other digital IDs, screenshots of the e-driver’s license, or photocopies of the license will not be accepted by LTO enforcers or their deputized agents.
The LTO reminded motorists to ensure that they access and present the e-driver’s license through official platforms to avoid issues during roadside inspections.
How to Access Your E-Driver’s License
Motorists automatically gain access to their e-driver’s license after applying for a new driver’s license or renewing an existing one. The digital license can be accessed through two official platforms: the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal and the eGov app.
Accessing Your E-Driver’s License via the LTMS Portal
If you don’t yet have an LTMS account, start by creating one. Simply select “Register Now” on the LTMS website and complete the required registration details.
Once your driver’s license has been issued or renewed, it will automatically be uploaded to your LTMS account. To view your e-driver’s license, log in and tap the “Digital ID” option on the main dashboard.
A digital version of your driver’s license will then appear on your screen, ready to be presented when needed.
Accessing Your E-Driver’s License via the eGov App
Motorists may also access their e-driver’s license through the official eGov app. After downloading the app and signing in, link your account to your government-issued IDs. Once connected, your e-driver’s license will be available for viewing directly within the app.
The LTO reminds motorists to use only official platforms when accessing their e-driver’s license, as screenshots or unofficial copies are not considered valid during inspections or traffic stops.
How to View Your E-Driver’s License Using the eGov App
To access your e-driver’s license through the eGov app, follow these simple steps:
First, download the eGov app on your mobile device from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
Next, create an account by completing the identity verification process. This includes taking a selfie and uploading a valid government-issued ID.
Once your account is set up, tap the “Digital ID” option located at the bottom of the dashboard. This will display digital versions of your government-issued IDs, including your driver’s license.
A valid e-driver’s license will show your photo, personal identification details, and a scannable QR code or barcode that can be used for verification.
Both the LTMS portal and the eGov app allow motorists to access their e-driver’s license free of charge.
