Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of a policewoman and her 8-year-old son, whose bodies were discovered on a farm in Tarlac, authorities confirmed. National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the arrests took place Friday evening, though additional details were not released as follow-up operations continue.
The case involves Senior Master Sgt. Diane Marie Mollenido and her son, John Ysmael. The boy’s body was found last Thursday in a calamansi farm in Barangay Maluid, Victoria town, Tarlac, ending a two-week search. A farm worker discovered the child while clearing grass; his body was wrapped in tape and placed inside a plastic bag. An autopsy revealed he died from asphyxia.
John Ysmael and his mother were last seen on January 16, the day they left their Taguig City home to meet a car agent in Novaliches, Quezon City, regarding the sale of their Toyota Innova for ₱450,000. They never returned.
Mollenido, who worked in the NCRPO’s Personnel and Records Management Division, was reported missing on January 19. Her body was later found on January 24 along a roadside in Pulilan, Bulacan, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities have named a female car agent, one of the last people to see the victims, as a person of interest. Her husband is a dismissed police officer, although her identity has not been publicly released. The slain officer’s estranged husband, Senior Master Sgt. John Mollenido, is also considered a person of interest.
Tarlac police said the boy’s body was located about a kilometer from the national highway, just below an irrigation road frequently used by vehicles.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that the PNP is providing financial assistance, protection, and counseling to the Mollenido family as the investigation continues. The identities of the arrested suspects and any charges they may face have not yet been disclosed.
John Mollenido, ay itinuturing ding person of interest.
