The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released key details surrounding the brutal killings of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael, in a case that has gripped the nation. DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced that following extensive investigation efforts, the case is now considered “solved” with several suspects already in police custody.
Mollenido and her son were last seen on January 16 after leaving their Taguig home to meet a car agent in Quezon City regarding a vehicle sale. When they did not return, they were reported missing on January 19. Authorities later found Mollenido’s body in a creek in Bulacan and her son’s remains in a farm in Tarlac, with investigators determining the boy died from suffocation.
DILG said the alleged motive involved a vehicle transaction, with a car agent and her partner — a dismissed police officer — identified as primary suspects and now charged in connection with the killings. Another accomplice has also been named. According to Remulla, the suspects displayed “psychopathic criminal tendencies” by involving their own children while disposing of the victims’ bodies.
The case has drawn strong reactions from law enforcement leadership, who are urging that justice be fully carried out. While the suspects are in custody, investigations continue, including scrutiny of others who may have been involved in the crime.
