The Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted more than ₱43 million worth of cocaine from a passenger who arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 earlier this month.
In a statement released Thursday, the BOC said the illegal drugs were seized on January 22 after airport authorities flagged a passenger’s checked-in baggage for suspicious x-ray images. The agency did not reveal the passenger’s nationality or point of origin.
Following the alert, customs officers conducted a full physical inspection of the luggage. The examination uncovered a white crystalline substance believed to be cocaine, weighing approximately 8.194 kilograms, hidden inside the baggage.
The seized drugs, with an estimated street value of ₱43,428,200, were immediately turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for laboratory testing, proper handling, and further investigation.
The BOC added that the passenger now faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as well as Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
